Studying in Germany, from India

Public universities charge no tuition in 15 of Germany’s 16 states (Baden-Württemberg charges non-EU students €1,500 per semester), which is why Germany is worth the paperwork it demands. Bachelor’s, master’s and Ausbildung are three different applications with different entry requirements — this page is about working out which one is yours. No outcome is guaranteed at any point: every visa decision belongs to the German mission, not to us.

The route to a tuition-free German degree

Germany's public universities charge no tuition — to Indians and Germans alike, in 15 of the 16 federal states. There are four ways in, depending on where you are today.

Public-university admissions are the core of what we do. Not private colleges with commission arrangements — government universities, where the tuition is zero and the degree carries weight.

Straight after 12th standard

Indian 12th-standard results usually need a bridging year before a German public university will admit you. That year is the Studienkolleg — and it is the normal route, not a setback.
